ACTFL & ACTFL/OPI Speaking Training System

This section provides a structured speaking training system aligned with ILR Standards and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and Oral Proficiency Interview (ACTFL/OPI) framework. It is designed for serious learners preparing for ILR- or ACTFL-based proficiency assessments.

I. Establish a Structured ACTFL/OPI Performance System

• Create and maintain a dedicated ACTFL/OPI binder or organized digital portfolio aligned with the ten task categories in this system.
• Systematically archive prior Chinese writings (journals, compositions, structured outlines) under appropriate task categories. These materials function as performance frameworks — not memorized scripts.
• Replace outdated drafts with revised versions to maintain a current and accurate performance record.
• Insert designated note pages within each category to document task-specific observations. Avoid fragmented or untraceable annotations.

II. Required Materials for Each ACTFL/OPI Practice Session

• Your fully organized ACTFL/OPI binder or digital portfolio.

III. Post-Session Performance Consolidation

• Review written notes and recordings immediately following each session.
• Conduct a critical listening analysis to identify breakdowns in clarity, structure, or accuracy.
• Revise outlines and written drafts to eliminate recurring errors and strengthen structural control.
• Integrate newly acquired vocabulary and expressions into your active retention system.
• Document unresolved linguistic questions and address them in the subsequent session.
• For emerging or high-frequency topics lacking preparation materials, draft structured outlines in advance, incorporate instructor revisions, and archive finalized versions within the appropriate category.
